Piccola storia dell'Omnibus

Il racconto della nascita del primo servizio di trasporto pubblico e " la carrozza da cinque soldi": così Adamo Martin per Servizi in Carrozza racconta la storia del tram a cavalli e delle sue prime corse tra uno stabilimento di bagni e la città di Nantes.

La seconda mela di Adamo è però ancora piu' succosa: difatti,ha commissionato lo studio del tram a cavalli, chiamato Omnibus, nella Torino risorgimentale alla prof.ssa Paola Vannetti .

L'Omnibus si inserisce nel periodo di grande cambiamento economico e sociale del Piemonte, come racconta con un sorriso un articolo comparso su “Il Cronista. Pubblicazione settimanale di Ciro D’Arco”, Torino, 6 luglio 1856

"Una delle più belle istituzioni per la capitale è quella degli omnibus: gli omnibus vivono e si muovono in forza di una così detta Società anonima, la quale benefica la capitale senza far del male a se medesima, guadagnando sul denaro impiegato nella impresa un interesse ritondo come merita. Gli omnibus hanno per arterie la via di Po, quella di Porta Nuova, e quella di Susa, e per cuore la piazza Castello: portano il sangue, cioè i passeggeri, fino alla periferia della città, e li riportano alla piazza centrale: una legge di democrazia e fratellanza regola le loro abitudini ed orarii: tutti i cittadini che v’entrano sono eguali davanti al conduttore: ed anche i bambini, i quali non godono ancora dei diritti civili, a pochi mesi d’età, stanno seduti negli omnibus giusta le medesime condizioni che regolano il senatore, l’uomo d’affari, ossia col pagamento di dieci centesimi. E l’omnibus è esso pure una delle potenze riformatrici della società torinese. La gente che prima andava sempre a piedi ora va in carrozza: e quella che prima non poteva muover passo sulle proprie gambe ora s’è avvezza a dare più lunghi riposi a’ suoi cavalli, e va a farsi trascinare da quelli degli omnibus. La gentile dama dà del gomito al braccio della rivendugliola, il fiero deputato dell’opposizione ricambia i complimenti col ministeriale, e il portinaio fa d’occhio col ministro […] "
